Flapper Dress w/ black slip - Courtesy of Blue Velvet Vintage

I took my inspiration from a number of sources, however, my main inspiration was Tilly Devine who was portrayed by actress Chelsie Preston Crayford in the Australian series, Underbelly: Razor (This television series is inspired by true events and by author, Larry Writer). The main characters in this television series are a lot more glamorous than they were in real life... But it was a good excuse to show all the glitz and glam.
Blue Velvet Vintage offers a range of vintage reproduction clothing, a huge range of 1920s style flapper dresses, their own house brand of flirty fifties frocks and even a range of authentic vintage clothing. Their shipping was super fast from the US to Australia too!

I have always dreamed of owning a dress like this and when Blue Velvet Vintage offered me one of their amazing 1920s reproduction dresses to review I instantly envisioned what I could do with this dress. I can't wait to wear it out and enjoy it for many years to come.
These dresses are exclusive to Blue Velvet Vintage and they are made so beautifully. The bead work is amazing, words can't describe the detail of it, which is why I have made such a long post. I must mention that the satin slip was the same length as the dress, I took the slip up so I could dance and be a bit of a showgirl (You can move comfortably in the original slip length). I hemmed it over so I can release the length again if I want to.
I decided last minute after taking photos to film a few quick dance moves so you could see how amazing the dress looks when dancing! I have a jazz and tap dancing background so I tried so hard not to break out the tap dancing... Maybe another time perhaps??
This truly is a special garment and it gave me the opportunity to use my Great Grandmother's Marcel Wave clips and they are in such beautiful condition too. I would love to create this look again complete with the faux bob. I don't think authentic looking hair and make-up is necessary to wear one of these dresses, I just could not resist as it is a style I have always wanted to try! This dress is definitely worth every penny.

Wow Kayla, you are looking absolutely stunning as a 1920's flapper girl! Also I loved the video, a lot of fun! :)
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely stunning! I love the authentic hair, I really want to pick some Marcel wave clips up because I think they create such a lovely look. You look like you could come right out of a dance floor in the 1920s. I think the look suits you so well :)

Wow. This is one of my fave posts you have done so far! I love the dress, shoes, hair and lipstick. I also love your poses (I may have to copy one of those for a pin-up comp i am hopefully entering in may). I also adore your charleston dancing. I have a dance background too and recently started back at tap. dancing is so much fun :)
ReplyDeleteGoodness gracious, do you look sublime! The 1920s suit you to a tee, dear gal - and may I just say, you have legs that were absolutely made for this kind of style. You're a total roaring 20s knockout!!!
