Flapper Dress | Blue Velvet Vintage + A Video!

Wednesday 4 March 2015

I have always been fascinated with 1920s fashion and history.

I took my inspiration from a number of sources, however, my main inspiration was Tilly Devine who was portrayed by actress Chelsie Preston Crayford in the Australian series, Underbelly: Razor (This television series is inspired by true events and by author, Larry Writer). The main characters in this television series are a lot more glamorous than they were in real life... But it was a good excuse to show all the glitz and glam.

Blue Velvet Vintage offers a range of vintage reproduction clothing, a huge range of 1920s style flapper dresses, their own house brand of flirty fifties frocks and even a range of authentic vintage clothing. Their shipping was super fast from the US to Australia too!

I have always dreamed of owning a dress like this and when Blue Velvet Vintage offered me one of their amazing 1920s reproduction dresses to review I instantly envisioned what I could do with this dress. I can't wait to wear it out and enjoy it for many years to come.

These dresses are exclusive to Blue Velvet Vintage and they are made so beautifully. The bead work is amazing, words can't describe the detail of it, which is why I have made such a long post. I must mention that the satin slip was the same length as the dress, I took the slip up so I could dance and be a bit of a showgirl (You can move comfortably in the original slip length). I hemmed it over so I can release the length again if I want to.

I decided last minute after taking photos to film a few quick dance moves so you could see how amazing the dress looks when dancing! I have a jazz and tap dancing background so I tried so hard not to break out the tap dancing... Maybe another time perhaps??

This truly is a special garment and it gave me the opportunity to use my Great Grandmother's Marcel Wave clips and they are in such beautiful condition too. I would love to create this look again complete with the faux bob. I don't think authentic looking hair and make-up is necessary to wear one of these dresses, I just could not resist as it is a style I have always wanted to try! This dress is definitely worth every penny.

You can find Blue Velvet Vintage on their website, Facebook and Instagram!
