Blue, pink and a bit of cake!

Garden State Dress in Slade Blue & White Polka Dots - c/o Unique Vintage
Just One Slice Brooch - c/o Erstwilder
Shoes - Vivienne Westwood/Melissa (eBay)
1950's Necklace, Gloves and Earrings - Thrifted
Hair Flower - Handmade

I have always loved the Garden State dress by Unique Vintage and finally here I am wearing one... When I saw it in this beautiful blue shade I could not pass it up! I don't always plan out my outfits with this colour palette but I naturally pulled pink accessories together when styling it, pastel blue and pink are just too perfect together!

This outfit gives me total princess vibes and the shoes add to that princess factor... It also gives me a Sofia Coppola Marie Antoinette feeling, though 1950's style.. With the shoes and the cake brooch by Erstwilder (and lets face it I really love cake) those pastel dreamy aesthetics that the film creates are shining through. I will forever be obsessed with that film and I am due to pop the DVD on again soon.

Now to talk about sizing, I always wear size small in Unique Vintage and this is another perfect fit, their size charts are always very accurate which is awesome when ordering clothing from overseas. The dress is very well structured and maintains great shape with a padded bust  and a sturdy fit thanks to the construction of the bodice and fabric (there was enough support for me personally that I did not need a bra). You can play around with the sleeves a bit too: make the sleeves thin, sit off the shoulder slightly or wear them like I have here. The dress is also lined and has a tulle layer which gave the dress a beautiful amount of volume, I rarely wear petticoats so this is always a great feature for dresses like this.

This is quite a formal look but I do think I could sway it over to a more everyday look... Maybe by wearing a cardigan over top to make it appear as a skirt and with a pair of flats or simple heels. I think I may have to try that next. I do try to style things quite differently, especially dresses like this as I like to mix my wardrobe up and see if it can work in a completely different way!

I'm hoping the crazy windy weather holds off so I can go for a picnic to the gardens with my bestie tomorrow, I have the picnic basket ready to go and I just hope the sun will be out... The wind was howling all morning!

  10. Ooh this colourway is beautiful! And perfect with your pretty accessories, what a lovely look. This could easily have been a contender for my bridesmaids' dresses, but I had to be careful with the amount of chest and back skin exposed... I could just picture it though! x

  11. What a sweet and dreamy look! I'm getting a real Grace Kelly vibe with the sleek blond waves and the 1950s, baby blue princess dress. I feel like this is the sort of thing I would have dreamed of wearing as a little girl, which is always a lovely feeling!

  14. So magnificently pretty! The marriage of soft pink and blue against a vivid white blossom background is nothing short of enchanting. I feel like this look could have graced the cover of Seventeen magazine during the 50s.
