Pin Curls and Miss Ruby Rabbit Setting Spray!

Saturday 17 October 2015

I was recently sent setting spray by Miss Ruby Rabbit to review on the blog and after trying it 4 or 5 times now I am pleased with the results...

I use a different spray to set my hair but was excited to give it a try after seeing other pin up girls on Instagram who love this product. I use a thin comb, bobby pins and a setting spray once my pin curls are in (I put a scarf on for bed) and I usually comb it in the morning with a thick tooth comb whilst using the small comb for the fringe area. My hair is naturally wavy/curly, it becomes more curly on it's own if it is a bit shorter too. A while after I took these photos my thin comb broke... My thick hair has snapped many things haha!

Pin curling at midnight in a vintage bed coat at my dressing table and trying to look focused, lol!

My pin curl placement is very random and looks pretty messy, but I just go with the flow and put them in quickly before bed. I have so much hair that I just think "whatever it should work out." Though sometimes I like to take my time before an important event.

Next morning, make-up on and blue steel in the mirror. Let's take these pin curls out.

Oh hey pin curls!

And after a light comb through, I was pleased with the results and added a hair flower for my outfit of the day.

When I set my hair this particular time, it was a beautiful spring day and then a storm approached and I was like "oh no my hair" and it happened to be when I was snapping some blog photos when I was out. My hair held up pretty well with the rain and humidity which I was really impressed with, you will be able to see that particular post next time.

The first couple of times I used this product it felt a little stiff to me, but I guess that is because of my thick hair too. But when I tested it out in various weather conditions it did give me really great results, it will definitely be my go to product for events, photoshoots and windy days as it holds the pin curls well.

It's a great product and I think it will hold up well at rockabilly festivals and events where it is always hot and stuffy (which I will test out next week)! I must also mention the beautiful hair flower that I was sent with my setting spray, it is absolutely gorgeous and really well made and it went so perfectly with one of my dresses!

  2. Looks beautiful! I haven't used a setting lotion yet, but have just bought one and tried it for the first time overnight. Can't wait to see how it turns out... and anything that can help with the constant mist and rain here can't be a bad thing... x

  3. Such a charmingly fun series of photos. It's always a treat to see a "behind the scenes" sort of styling post like this from a fellow vintage blogger.

  4. Very nice! I love your little bed jacket, the quilting is super cute. I haven't really gotten the hang of pin curls yet, but I've discovered that I love the set that I can get from foam rollers. I'd largely given up on wet sets, so I was really happy to discover a method that worked for me. I love the ringlets that you get with your method, though - they're perfect for your pretty 50s style.
